NEET and Quality of Medical Education in India

Will NEET Improve the Quality of Medical Education in India?

Will NEET improve the quality of Medical Education in India? The interrelation of NEET and Quality of Medical Education is examined here. According to many education experts, introduction of NEET will positively influence the quality of medical education. Starting 2017, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), is the single common entrance exam for medical admissions in India. NEET will pave way to a more unified testing process to assess the knowledge, skills, and aptitude of candidates seeking MBBS/ BDS admissions.

NEET – Exemptions

While NEET becomes mandatory for getting admission to both private and government medical colleges in India, certain institutions are exempt. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi is one of those. Also, Postgraduate Institute for Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), are exempt from NEET. This NEET exemption is due to the specific laws governing them.

NEET and Quality of Medical Education in India- Changes

Medical Admissions in India have always been ridiculed for years due to multiple grey areas and lack of transparency in the overall process. It has been the practice that parents with deep pockets reserved seats in preferred medical colleges for their children. This seat reservation was even done way before the actual admission process even started.

Now read what Mr. Venkataraman, who grooms students for Medical entrance exams, says. He commented, “Until recently, some parents bring their kids for coaching to give it a try if they qualify by merit. If not, they are ready to spend whatever amount to secure a medical seat. It has grown into a symbol of status and prestige for the family. The student’s aptitude and interest comes second”. However, this scenario has changed with the advent of NEET, the nationalized test for MBBS/BDS admission in India.

NEET making MBBS Admissions “Neat”- Improving Quality of MBBS Admissions

Now, NEET is making MBBS Admissions “neat”, thereby improving quality of MBBS Admissions in India. Also, NEET has brought a more transparent and standardized admission process. And, it eliminated the chances of brokers, agencies, and other middlemen exploiting the applicants for securing medical seats. However, many states and organizations have voiced concerns about the allotment of seats for the reserved categories, including SC/ST and OBC. In the future, additional guidelines and policies may be developed to oversee the counseling process of individual universities. And, this will ensure further transparency in the medical admission process. Furthermore, introduction of NEET will improve the overall health care quality in India.

NEET 2018 Application Process- Why Worry?

Instructions and guidelines for the NEET 2019 application process is much awaited by applicants all over India. Amidst concerns over the actual date to start the online application process, many candidates are currently focusing on the CLASS XII exams. Also, find details about CBSE Class X Date Sheet and CBSE Class XII Date Sheet 2018.
Last year, there was much confusion and panic among many candidates regarding the introduction of NEET. However, this year, applicants seem more relaxed and are patiently waiting for the NEET 2019 application process. For latest updates and announcements about the NEET 2019 application process, applicants will have to visit the NTA website at http://www.ntaneet.nic.in.
